During the first month of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, 3.6 million Ukrainians were forced to leave their native land. Another 6.5 million Ukrainians, according to estimates by the International Organization for Migration, left their homes and found refuge within our country. In those terrible February-March days of the war, queues stretching several kilometers formed at the checkpoints to EU countries, primarily to Poland… my family among them… No way out? Uncertainty? Salvation? Nostalgia? What lies ahead?
This journey is a search for a place of the future for our children, an attempt to give them a chance for a life without war. It is a self-portrait of thousands and thousands of Ukrainian families who, like us, are seeking opportunities for their children in a new, unfamiliar reality.
